Vancouver will celebrate Arbor Day at 11 a.m. Wednesday with a ceremonial tree planting, giveaway of free tree seedlings and children’s crafts at Marshall Community Park.

“Planting Trees Today for our Children’s Tomorrow” is the theme of this year’s hour-long celebration. It highlights the benefits of urban trees for future generations. The event will be held in the Mayor’s Grove at the park, 1009 E. McLoughlin Blvd.

Mayor Tim Leavitt will accept an award honoring Vancouver as a Tree City USA for the 21st consecutive year, and Clark Public Utilities will receive a TreeLine USA award for the 11th straight year. Commissioner Carol Curtis will accept it. The Arbor Day Foundation grants both distinctions.

For more information, call Jessica Antoine with the city’s Urban Forestry Department at 360-619-1108.
