SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — School officials in the Spokane area say a traffic collision involving a Central Valley School District bus sent five students to a hospital with minor injuries Wednesday afternoon.

School District spokeswoman Melanie Rose says five students and the bus driver were taken to a Spokane Valley hospital for the minor injuries or as a precaution.

She says several other children were checked at the scene by medics and released to their parents.

The Spokesman-Review says the bus had just left Broadway Elementary School with 63 students when it stopped at an intersection. Two cars collided in the intersection and one apparently was pushed into the bus.

Other students were put on another bus for the ride home.

The Spokane County sheriff’s office is investigating the crash.
