KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) — Klamath Basin insurance companies are adjusting to the post-recession market by reaching out to clients they hadn’t before.

The owner of Klamath Insurance Center says his sales bucked a national trend by increasing in 2009. Craig Phair says a consumer desire for bargains made them rethink their outreach strategies.

The owner of Midland Empire Insurance says increased competition drove his company in 2009. But he also has noticed that more people are willing to drive without insurance these days.

Particularly in rural communities, some people would rather risk the penalty of being caught without insurance than buy a policy.
