SEATTLE (AP) — Cliff Lee feels great after throwing about 50 pitches in a simulated game, keeping the 2008 AL Cy Young Award winner on track to make his debut for the Seattle Mariners in two weeks.
Lee said Friday following his first work against hitters since he strained his abdomen on March 15 that he felt as good as he normally does in the middle of the season without the endurance.
Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik says Lee will have another simulated game in Seattle on Tuesday. The ace left-hander will then have a minor league rehabilitation outing, likely on April 25.
Once he’s activated, Lee may then begin serving a five-game suspension for throwing over the head of Arizona’s Chris Snyder in an exhibition game. He has appealed.
