LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Will Power earned his third consecutive Indy Racing League pole, giving him a shot at a third win in four races.

The winner in Brazil and St. Petersburg, Power had the fastest qualifying time at the Grand Prix of Long Beach on Saturday, finishing just ahead of Ryan Hunter-Reay.

Power completed the 11-turn, 1.968-mile temporary street course in 1 minute, 9.3185 seconds. The Team Penske driver also earned the pole last week in Alabama, where he finished fourth, and in St. Pete.

Justin Wilson was third and Helio Castroneves, last week’s winner, was fourth. Defending Long Beach champion Dario Franchitti was well back in 12th. Sunday’s race through downtown Long Beach will be 85 laps, covering 167.2 miles.
