Police and fire response to a report of two unconscious teens at Hathaway Park in Washougal Friday night scattered a “bunch of people,” according to a police sergeant.

A report that two people were unconscious went out at about 9:20 p.m. Friday.

The two unconscious teens and a third teen were taken by ambulances to a hospital, Larry Osentowski, an acting captain with the Washougal Fire Department, said late Friday night.

The teens have not been identified.

“There was a bunch more people there too that took off prior to police arrival,” said Geoff Reijonen, a Washougal police sergeant. “It sounds like maybe there was a party down there.”

Officials suspect the teens suffered from alcohol poisoning. An update on the teens’ medical condition was not available.

The park offers playgrounds and play sculptures, benches, picnic shelters and sports fields – and also fishing, swimming, drift boating and kayaking in the river, according to a Washougal website. Reijonen said a trip down steep terrain is required to reach to the bank of the Washougal River.

“It’s a well known hangout spot,” he said.

There were at least five people ages 15 to 20 on scene when emergency responders arrived at the park, he said.
