COLVILLE, Wash. (AP) — A Spokane firefighter has been charged with assault after a confrontation earlier this month with two Washington State Patrol troopers.

The Spokesman-Review reports that Stevens County Prosecutor Tim Rasmussen filed the charges Friday against Todd Chism, who has been on administrative leave since the April 8 incident on Highway 291.

The patrol says the troopers found Chism’s truck in a ditch. It says Chism resisted arrested and they repeatedly used a stun gun to take him into custody. One trooper received a broken thumb and another a hand injury in the fight.

In a separate case, Chism is suing the patrol for $20 million, saying he was wrongly accused of buying child pornography in 2008. He was cleared of those allegations and returned to work.
