MONACO (AP) — Race walker Francisco Javier Fernandez of Spain, a silver medalist at the 2004 Olympics, has been suspended for two years for possessing doping substances.

Track and field’s governing body did not say what doping products were found.

Fernandez was second in the 20-kilometer walk in Athens and finished seventh in the same event at the 2008 Beijing Games. He will not be eligible for the 2012 London Games because IOC rules say any athlete who receives a doping suspension of six months or more is banned from the next Olympics.

The Spaniard’s suspension started Feb. 11 and will run until Feb. 10, 2012.
