Jeff Raikes to give Nebraska commencement speech

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Computer and charity executive Jeff Raikes will give the keynote address and his late brother, Ron, will be honored during undergraduate commencement exercises next month at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

The title of Jeff Raikes’ speech on May 8: “Nebraska Can Change the World.”

Raikes retired as president of Microsoft Corp.’s business division, then took over as chief executive of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

UNL will honor Ron Raikes’ memory with the Nebraska Builder Award, which is given to people who have contributed to building the programs or reputation of the university or the state of Nebraska.

Ron Raikes died last September in a farming accident. He had served 10 years in the Nebraska Legislature.
