SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A Spokane County sheriff’s deputy pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a drunken driving charge.

Deputy Darin Schaum was stopped last Friday by a Spokane Valley officer who said he was racing another vehicle and swerving.

Schaum refused to take a breath test, which brings a one-year suspension of his driver’s license.

The Spokesman-Review reports a judge from Whitman County is handling the case in Spokane County District Court.
