GOLD HILL, Ore. (AP) — Sparks from a generator started a fire that left two Gold Hill men homeless.

Fire officials say electricity had been shut off at the home of 54-year-old Bradley Weller and he was using a 5,000-watt generator stored in the garage to run lights in his house

Weller was trying to start the generator Wednesday night when it kicked out sparks that caused the garage to catch fire.

He attempted to douse the flames with a garden hose, but couldn’t stop the blaze from engulfing the garage and spreading to his nearby home.

The flames also damaged a travel trailer parked near the garage and a boat in a neighbor’s yard.
