KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) — Thirteen people in the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office have been told they will be laid off if voters turn down a $15 million levy in the May election.
Sheriff Tim Evinger told the Herald and News newspaper that if the levy passes, it will keep the sheriff’s office going for three years.
Besides the layoffs, more than half the jail’s 154 beds would have to be shut down to fill the funding gap without the levy.
The levy would amount to $59 in taxes on a $100,000 home.
