BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Colt McCoy calls Cleveland “the perfect fit” and doesn’t mind if he has to stand on the sideline in 2010.
The Browns’ third-round draft pick sees himself as the long-term solution to Cleveland’s quarterback woes, even if it might take awhile. Browns president Mike Holmgren has already said he doesn’t want McCoy to play this year, but instead stand and learn behind veterans Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace.
McCoy, taking part in the team’s rookie minicamp this weekend, said Holmgren and coach Eric Mangini both told him to become a leader of the rookie class. He began studying the playbook the morning after he was drafted.
A four-year starter at Texas, McCoy’s 45 victories with the Longhorns are the most of any quarterback in college football history.
