BEND, Ore. (AP) — Gov. Ted Kulongoski has denied a clemency request from one of the Redmond Five.

Ashley Summers and four other teens plotted to murder Barbara Thomas of Redmond in 2001. Summers and another girl then stood watch while two boys — one of them the victim’s son — beat the woman with wine bottles and shot her.

Summers received a 25-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit aggravated murder and other charges.

The governor denied the clemency request in a letter dated Monday.

Summers will be moved to an adult prison when she turns 25 this year.
