SAN DIEGO (AP) — Newly acquired outfielder Ryan Ludwick has joined the San Diego Padres but isn’t in the lineup against the Marlins.

San Diego placed infielder Oscar Salazar on the 15-day disabled list to make room on the 25-man roster.

Manager Bud Black originally said Ludwick would play right field and bat cleanup in Sunday’s game against Florida, but the outfielder wasn’t in the starting lineup. Ludwick says the team wants to be cautious because he recently spent time on the disabled list with a calf injury.

Ludwick was acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday in a three-team trade that also involved the Cleveland Indians.

Salazar has a strained right Achilles’ tendon.
