NEW YORK (AP) — Longtime NBA public relations official Brian McIntyre will become the senior communications adviser to commissioner David Stern.

The league is promoting Tim Frank to senior vice president of basketball communications to replace McIntyre, who began what Stern calls “a distinguished career” at the NBA in 1981.

McIntyre joined the league as director of public relations, was promoted to vice president of public relations in 1989 and became senior vice president of an expanded communications group in 1997.

The Professional Basketball Writers Association named its annual team media relations award after McIntyre, who has overseen public relations activities at every major NBA event since 1982.
