SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador (AP) — Uruguay’s Alvaro Fernandez scored on a 10-yard header in the 74th minute to lift the Seattle Sounders to a 1-1 draw Thursday with Metapan to earn a place in the group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League.

The MLS team won the first leg at home 1-0 and advanced from the qualifying stage on a 2-1 aggregate.

Anel Canales scored for Metapan in the first half. The match was played in continuous rain with the field badly cut up and muddy at the end

Seattle will play in Group C with Monterrey, Saprissa and either Tauro of Panama or Marathon of Honduras.
