ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) — A Roseburg man accused of shooting his girlfriend in the head has been charged with attempted murder and assault.

Police said 27-year-old Jeff Edward Reece was being held without bail at the Douglas County Jail in Roseburg.

Police said the victim, 24-year-old Ashley Reynolds of Roseburg, was walking with another person near an intersection early Wednesday morning when they were joined by Reece, her boyfriend for the past few months.

Roseburg police Sgt. Aaron Dunbar said the couple exchanged words before the shooting. An officer responding to a report of a gunshot saw Reece speeding away in a vehicle and stopped him.

Reynolds was reported in good condition Wednesday at Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield.
