DETROIT (AP) — Tigers owner Mike Ilitch says manager Jim Leyland and general manager Dave Dombrowski will return next season.

Ilitch told reporters Friday following a news conference introducing new Red Wings player Mike Modano. Ilitch also owns Detroit’s hockey team.

The owner says he’s “staying with Dave” and “staying with our manager.”

Heading into Friday night’s home game against the Los Angeles Angels, the Tigers were 5-17 since the All-Star break and 53-55 overall.

Despite the disappointing second half so far, Ilitch says he believes the foundation is in place for the team to become a consistent playoff contender beginning next season.
