UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut’s troubles with the NCAA didn’t stop some of the biggest stars from the school’s basketball past from returning to the state to suit up in support of coach Jim Calhoun.

About 30 former Huskies, including Ray Allen, Caron Butler, Ben Gordon and Emeka Okafor, showed up Saturday for what has become a biennial charity basketball game to fund research at the Jim and Pat Calhoun Cardiology Center at UConn’s medical center.

Allen said every organization goes through down times, but the people who believe in Calhoun and the school will stick by no matter what happens.

The Hall of Fame coach said after a summer of stories about NCAA violations and low academic performance rankings, it was nice to be able to showcase some of what UConn has accomplished.
