MANCHESTER, Conn (AP) — The victims of a workplace shooting at a Connecticut beer distribution company have been remembered at a candlelight vigil. And families of the victims have been told by city officials that the town of Manchester is embracing those affected by the tragedy.

Town manager Scott Shanley says the entire community is feeling pain for the victims, calling the vigil ” a good end to an awful, awful week.”

About 500 people, ranging in age from children to senior citizens, gathered at Center Park in Manchester on Sunday night, nearly a week after Omar Thornton killed eight co-workers and wounded two others before killing himself at the Hartford Distributors building.

Those gathered for the vigil lit candles as the song “Amazing Grace” was played on a violin.

The 34-year-old Thornton said in a 911 call the day of the shooting he was upset about poor treatment of him and other black employees. But Hartford Distributors president Ross Hollander and relatives of the victims have rejected the claims.
