HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) — Authorities have arrested a Washington County man accused of shining a green laser into the eyes of a sheriff’s deputy three weeks ago.

The laser burned the left eye of Deputy Glenn Howard, who had been sitting in his patrol car outside in an apartment complex near King City.

A tip led detectives to 24-year-old Anton Strom, who was arrested Saturday.

Sgt. David Thompson says Strom lives at the complex where the incident happened and investigators seized a powerful laser from his apartment.

Strom has been charged with assault, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful directing of a light from a laser pointer. Bail was set at $250,000.

The deputy continues to have discomfort in his left eye, but is able to work.
