Forest Service plans remembrances

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho (AP) — The Forest Service is holding several events next week to remember the 100th anniversary of the Great Fires of 1910.

The fires burned as estimated 3 million acres in Idaho, Montana and Washington and killed 85 firefighters.

On August 20, the Forest Service will rededicate the grave site in St. Maries where 54 of the firefighters were buried. On August 21, the Forest Service will dedicate a new monument to the dead firefighters in Wallace.
