PORT ORCHARD, Wash. (AP) — A Kitsap County sheriff’s spokesman says a 47-year-old Kitsap County Jail inmate was found hanging in his cell Wednesday afternoon.

Jail staff and medics attempted first aid but the unidentified man was declared dead at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton.

Sheriff’s spokesman Scott Wilson says investigators believe the death was a suicide. Sheriff’s detectives and Port Orchard police are investigating.

Wilson says the man was found by a corrections officer doing hourly cell checks.

The man had been arrested for investigation of protection order violations.
