NMSU coach Walker: No tweets allowed

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico State coach DeWayne Walker doesn’t see his decision to ban his team from using Twitter this season as an issue about control.

For Walker, it’s about protection.

He said Thursday there are 105 players on the team, plus coaches and staff. Walker says people associated with the Aggies might post a tweet that can negatively affect the football team or the university, even if they didn’t intend harm.

Walker’s decision comes after Boise State coach Chris Peterson banned Twitter for his players.

New Mexico State receiver Todd Lee says Walker’s directive will “cut out some of that extra nonsense that we don’t need coming into the season.”
