GENEVA (AP) — German cyclist Stefan Schumacher hopes to race again the day after his two-year doping ban ends, signing with Italian third-tier team Miche.

Schumacher says on his website that he expects to race Aug. 28 at the Tour of Veneto in Italy.

The 29-year-old German was banned after his samples from the 2008 Tour de France showed traces of the blood-boosting hormone CERA. He won both Tour time trials but was caught two months later by a new test and stripped of the wins.

Schumacher also was disqualified from the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

His new Miche teammates include Danish cyclist Michael Rasmussen, who was banned after being kicked out of the 2007 Tour de France when leading because he misled officials about missed doping tests.
