SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The Spokane City Council held a meeting Monday afternoon when the public was not allowed in City Hall because of a hazmat scare.
KHQ-TV reports the meeting may have violated the open meeting law.
City Hall was locked down while a hazmat team investigated a white powdery substance that was discovered by a worker opening mail. It turned out to be non-toxic cornstarch used in packaging.
While the building was closed to the public, the council held its afternoon session.
City spokeswoman Marlene Feist says the meeting was carried live on city cable TV. Scheduled votes were moved to the evening session, which was open to the public.
