PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) — The 22nd annual National Lentil Festival gets cooking on Friday in Pullman with free lentil chili.
Saturday’s events include a lentil pancake breakfast followed by the festival cook-off. Festival-goers will taste the six top dishes from a preliminary cook-off in July and vote for their favorite. They includes two recipes already awarded the prize for most creative: the Rhubarb Lentil Crisp and Maple Chipotle Barbecue Lentil Pizza.
The Spokesman-Review reports a “I Hate Lentils” category was added this year and the award went to a fudgy frosting called Animal Cracker Dip.
The event is sponsored by the city of Pullman, Chamber of Commerce and Washington State University with support from the USA Dry Pea and Lentil Council.
