PHOENIX (AP) — The Cincinnati Reds have designated right-hander Micah Owings for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for top draft pick Yasmani Grandal.

The Reds signed Grandal, a catcher, to the major league roster just before Monday’s deadline. He’s expected to join the organization’s rookie league team in Billings, Mont.

Owings appeared in 22 games as a reliever for Cincinnati, going 3-2 with a 5.40 ERA.
