SINGAPORE (AP) — The World Anti-Doping Agency is using the Youth Olympics to take its message to young athletes directly to the target audience.
WADA has set up a booth in the heart of the Youth Olympic village where athletes from around the world crowd around to participate in a role-playing game aimed at teaching them the perils of doping.
Athletes take on the role of a rising track star who can either dope to reach the world championships or eat right, train and get adequate rest.
WADA’s chief John Fahey says the campaign is part of a move to put greater emphasis on prevention especially among young people. He said the aim is to “to give them reasons why they shouldn’t cheat, endanger their health and in some cases destroy their lives.”
