MONTREAL (AP) — Svetlana Kuznetsova has reached the semifinals of the Rogers Cup for the first time in eighth appearances with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over unseeded Zheng Jie of China.
Kuznetsova improved to 6-0 all-time against Zheng on Friday.
The 25-year-old Russian turned around a weak season with a victory two weeks ago in San Diego. It was her 13th career tournament win, including the 2004 U.S. Open and the 2009 French Open.
She will face the winner of the match between Francesca Schiavone and Caroline Wozniacki.
In other quarterfinal matches, Marion Bartoli will face Victoria Azarenka and Kim Clijsters will meet Vera Zvonareva.
