PHOENIX (AP) — The Colorado Rockies have designated left-hander Randy Flores for assignment and recalled infielder Jonathan Herrera from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
The moves were made Friday before the Rockies opened a series in Arizona.
Herrera, up for his second stint in the majors this season after being on the 25-man roster for two months, was available for Friday night’s game against the Diamondbacks. He was sent down Aug. 3 when first baseman Todd Helton came off the disabled list.
The 35-year-old Flores was 2-0 with a 2.96 ERA in 47 appearances out of the Colorado bullpen. He’s a nine-year major league veteran who earned a World Series ring with St. Louis in 2006.
The Rockies have 10 days to trade, release or send him outright to the minors.
