TILLAMOOK, Ore. (AP) — The Corps of Engineers is placing huge boulders — each weighing 35 to 50 tons — on the north Tillamook Jetty to help protect the Garibaldi Harbor channel.

KGW reports Sen. Ron Wyden toured the site Tuesday. Much of the funding for the $16 million project is from federal stimulus money. Wyden says more money is needed to repair the south jetty.

Since 1992, a total of 20 people have died near the Tillamook bar. Thirteen of those were in 2003 when a charter boat capsized.
