HERMISTON, Ore. (AP) — A Hermiston man has been sentenced more than 6 years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman last February.

The East Oregonian reported that 33-year-old Steven Ray Sather pleaded no contest Monday to the assault charge while two rape charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Sather must also write a letter of apology to his victim, a 21-year-old Pasco, Wash., woman, and register as a sex offender.

According to Hermiston police, Sather and the woman were drinking at his residence in Hermiston early the morning of Feb. 28 when the woman passed out.

She later reported that when she woke up, Sather was raping her and refused to stop.
