OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Voter turnout for the state’s primary last week was better than expected.
The secretary of state’s office said Wednesday that turnout was just over 40 percent of the state’s 3.6 million voters. Secretary of State Sam Reed had predicted 38 percent.
Voters weighed in on several races in Washington’s “top two” primary, including a U.S. Senate race, all of state’s U.S. House seats, state Supreme Court races and dozens of legislative seats.
The counties with the highest turnout are Wahkiakum, San Juan, Columbia, and Lincoln, all over 60 percent. Pierce County had the lowest turnout of 35 percent.
