OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Two Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldiers who live in Yelm were accused of using water punishments on their children in January.

The Olympian reports both soldiers had served in Iraq but the incidents were unrelated.

In one case, 27-year-old Joshua Ryan Tabor admitted Tuesday he would be found guilty of third-degree child assault. Thurston County prosecutors are recommending two years of state supervision when he is sentenced Sept. 2 in Olympia.

Police said Tabor submerged his 4-year-old daughter’s head, face up, in the kitchen sink as punishment for refusing to say the alphabet.

In another case, 29-year-old Reuben Colon pleaded not guilty to a child assault charge. He’s accused of holding his 7-year-old son’s head under water.
