CHEHALIS, Wash. (AP) — The Lewis County sheriff’s office says a jail inmate strangled himself with bedding.

Guards found the 40-year-old Morton man dead Wednesday night, and he could not be revived. He was alone in a high-security cell at the jail in Chehalis.

The sheriff’s office says there was no indication the man was suicidal. He had been booked Tuesday for investigation of child rape.

Suicide notes were found in his cell.
