A man suspected in a Wednesday shooting and in a Thursday shoot-out with law enforcement officers will be extradited to Clark County once he’s released from a Portland hospital.

Adam S. Berndt, 23, was recovering Friday at a Portland hospital from multiple gunshot wounds. His condition was not available.

However, Clark County sheriff’s deputies said Friday that Berndt is expected to be extradited to face charges in Clark County after he recovers from his injuries.

He was shot Thursday after he allegedly fired at federal authorities at about noon outside a home in the 4600 block of Northeast 95th Avenue in Portland.

The incident came a day after a warrant alleging first-degree attempted murder was issued for Berndt, the lone suspect in a Wednesday morning shooting outside the Prairie View Apartments, 12611 N.E. 99th St.

Berndt was allegedly hiding in a northeast Portland residence when federal authorities came to serve the warrants, including one for a parole violation.

In a Friday news release, Clark County Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Schanaker said it is likely Berndt will face additional charges stemming from Thursday’s confrontation with the marshals.

An investigation into the shooting at the Prairie View complex is ongoing. Berndt is accused of shooting Steven McKnight, 29, four times during an apparent drug transaction at about 7:45 a.m. Wednesday.

McKnight, who was shot in the hip, shoulder and both arms, was taken to Southwest Washington Medical Center’s intensive care unit. He was reported in satisfactory condition Friday night. Authorities said he is homeless.
