VALE, Ore. (AP) — West Nile virus has been confirmed in a sample of mosquitoes trapped at Vale last week in eastern Oregon.

Malheur County officials told the Ontario Argus-Observer that West Nile virus has not been found anywhere else in the county so far.

But based on experience from last year, they said West Nile will likely show up through the north end of the county within the next week or two.

Officials are reminding the public to take extra precautions to protect themselves from being bitten by mosquitoes, include wearing long-sleeved shirts and full-length pants and using repellents.

West Nile virus may include symptoms that are similar to flu, such as fever, nausea, headache, diarrhea, vomiting, rash and dizziness.
