SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say five inmates at Folsom State Prison have been shot by guards after a riot broke out at the prison.

Prison spokesman Luis Patino says none of the gunshot wounds is believed to be life threatening.

He says correctional officers opened fire as they tried to break up the riot involving about 200 inmates that broke out Friday night at the California facility.

Three inmates were transported to area hospitals and two others were treated on the scene.

No officers were hurt in the riot.

Officials did not immediately respond to calls from The Associated Press.
