PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Washington County authorities say a 16-year-old girl was critically injured when the car in which she was a passenger slid into a tree during a late-night street race.

The sheriff’s office says the girl whose name has not been released was in a car driven by an 18-year-old Lake Oswego man who got into a race with another 18-year-old.

Deputies say many teens were watching the race on a rural road in the Portland suburb of Tualatin.

A crew with Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue had to slice off the top of the car to remove the trapped girl.
