Vancouver — Consumer Voices Are Born, a mental health agency run by and for those in recovery, has won a three-year Statewide Consumer Network Grant worth $210,000.
The grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration will pay for the development of at least three “consumer-operated self-help centers” across Washington, according to a CVAB statement.
CVAB maintains numerous peer-directed programs, from job training to peer support to a telephone hot line, at the county’s Center for Community Health. It also runs the Val Ogden Center clubhouse, a membership organization for people in recovery from mental health crises. CVAB facilities serve more than 2,200 people per year and had 18,500 visits last year.
CVAB aims to link the new self-help centers with each other and provide technical assistance and other services.
