BERLIN (AP) — NATO’s training school in southern Germany says a 39-year-old U.S. soldier has died in a rafting accident.

The NATO School said Sunday that the man, who worked for NATO, drowned in the Ammer River near the Bavarian village of Saulgrub on Saturday after his boat capsized. He had been on a leisure trip organized by the school.

Police in nearby Rosenheim were still investigating the accident and trying to find out why the man died despite wearing a lifejacket and a wetsuit.

The school declined to release the man’s identity.
