A portion of the Gibbons Creek Wildlife Art Trail at the Steigerwald National Wildlife Refuge will be closed Wednesday for an about 24-hour stretch while herbicides are sprayed to push back blackberry bushes in preparation for the planting of trees and shrubs in the fall and winter.

The segment impacted by the closure stretches from the Gibbons Creek Bridge to the Redtail Pond boardwalk. The closure is subject to change, pending the weather, according to a news release issued by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The tentative plan is to place signs announcing the closure at both ends of the trail by 8 a.m. The signs would be removed by 8 a.m. Thursday.

The rest of the trail will remain open, according to the release.
