VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — More than 100 students at the Washington School for the Deaf plus other family members, alumni and staff members are wearing new digital hearing aids thanks to a Minneapolis foundation.

The 425 devices that were fitted into ears Monday and Tuesday are worth more than $1 million.

The Columbian reports the hearing aids enable some users to clearly distinguish speech from ambient noise.

The hearings aids are a gift of the Starkey Hearing Foundation.
