OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Small- and mid-size companies that get export help from Washington state had sales of $154 million in the current fiscal year.

The state departments of Agriculture and Commerce say that despite the down economy, that’s an increase of $54 million over fiscal year 2009. Washington’s fiscal year ends on June 30.

Washington’s total export sales have averaged $50 billion in recent years, much of it from agriculture, software and Boeing planes. But the state has been encouraging and offering help to smaller businesses that want to sell their products abroad.
