Arizona takes down Rice 84-57

HOUSTON (AP) — Derrick Williams scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Arizona to an 84-57 blowout of Rice on Wednesday night.

Rice (3-4) hung on for the first five minutes of the game, but the Wildcats (6-1) pulled away with a 17-2 run after that.

Williams had six points in the run and Kyle Fogg capped it with a 3-pointer midway through the first period.

The Wildcats saw their lead balloon to 19 on a Jamelle Horne 3-pointer with 55 seconds left in the first half and went into the break with a 37-21 lead. Arizona’s lead grew to as many as 28 in the second half.

Horne finished with 15 points on a 4 of 7 shooting from behind the arc. Lamont Jones and Jordin Mayes each added 11 points for the Wildcats.

Arsalan Kazemi led the Owls with 17 points and six rebounds while Tamir Jackson added 13 points and Connor Frizzelle 11.
