Cvetinovic’s 18 pace Akron past Detroit 77-69

DETROIT (AP) — Nikola Cvetinovic scored 18 points to pace Akron to a 77-69 victory over Detroit on Wednesday night.

He also had a team-high seven rebounds and a game-high four steals for the Zips (3-2), who shot 49.2 percent (30 of 61). Darryl Roberts added 13 points, Brett McClanahan 11 and Steve McNees 10.

Detroit’s Chase Simon hit 9 of 12 shots en route to a season-high 24 points, with 20 coming in the second half. Jason Calliste scored 12, and Eli Holman’s 13 rebounds led a 39-27 advantage for the Titans (4-4).

The Zips forced 20 turnovers but committed only 10.

Akron led 45-43 when Roberts hit a 3-pointer and a fast-break jumper and 7-foot Zeke Marshall dunked the ball for a 7-0 run and a 52-43 edge with 12:19 to play. The lead ranged from seven to 12 points the rest of the game.
