East Tennessee State, Tubbs beat Dayton 73-68

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Justin Tubbs scored 26 points to lead East Tennessee State on a second-half surge to hold off Dayton 73-68 on Wednesday night.

The Buccaneers (3-2) trailed 38-33 at the break, but began the second half on an 18-2 run to take a 51-40 lead with 13:50 left in the game.

The Flyers (5-2) shot 10 for 36 after halftime (27.8 percent) en route to their second consecutive loss after starting 5-0.

Dayton’s overall shooting percentage of 33.3 percent (22 for 66) was a vast improvement over the 20 percent shooting effort (12 of 60) the Flyers posted in a 68-34 blowout loss to Cincinnati on Nov. 27.

ETSU shot 12 for 22 from the floor (54.5 percent) in the second and led by as many 64-55 with 1:35 to play.

Chris Wright grabbed 15 rebounds and scored 13 points for Dayton.

Mike Smith scored 17 points and Micah Williams added 16 for the Buccaneers.
