Miles lifts Murray St. over Eastern Kentucky 74-72

RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) — Isacc Miles made the go-ahead layup with 25 seconds left and Murray State held on to defeat Eastern Kentucky 74-72 on Thursday night in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams.

Isaiah Canaan, who led five Racers (4-3) in double figures with 17 points, hit two free throws with 5 seconds left to seal the win. Willie Cruz hit a layup with 2 seconds to go for the final margin.

The game was tied on 14 occasions, the last at 70-70, and had 11 lead changes.

Murray State, which won the 2009-10 OVC title for a record 21st time, also got 16 points from Ivan Aska, 13 from Miles, 11 from Edward Daniel and 10 from B.J. Jenkins.

Eastern Kentucky (3-4) led by seven early in the second half, but couldn’t hold on, shooting 13 for 23 (56.5 percent) to the Racers’ 15 for 25 (60 percent).

Spencer Perrin led the Colonels with 17 points and Josh Daniel had 15.
